How do I make a booking? Please email firstname.lastname@example.org or fill in the form on the contact page to indicate interest. We will get back to you within 2 working days. Once a shoot date has been decided on, a deposit of 50% will be required to confirm the session. The remainder should be paid on the day of the shoot.
How do I choose a suitable style of dress and makeup?
Drop us a note to inquire, letting us know your measurements and preferred colours. We will send you pictures of recommended outfits and hair styles. It would also be helpful if you could send us a picture of yourself so that we can propose a style which will complement your features and personality. Good communication is essential for us to enjoy working together!
Can I bring my own hanfu or costume? Yes, but please send us a photo of your hanfu and we will let you know. We do not photograph drama costumes (excluding high-quality Qing dynasty robes), cosplay outfits, or styles of Chinese dress that are not in line with our artistic vision.
What is the difference between fine-art editing and colour editing? Colour editing entails broad changes to the colours and lighting in the photo (e.g. hue/saturation, contrast, brightness etc.), which are essential to mood creation. Fine-art editing will include more detailed treatment of the subject (skin editing, slimming etc. where necessary) as well as the removal / correction of distracting elements in the photo (e.g. lampposts, passersby etc.) What can I expect on the actual day of the shoot? We will start the session with makeup and hair done on-location. After which, you will dress up and have the photo session. For convenience, it would be best to come in something you can easily change out of (e.g. a camisole and shorts, for ladies).
I’m a bit nervous to wear hanfu out in public, will people stare at me? We can recommend quieter shoot locations with fewer passersby, or do an indoor studio shoot which is more private. Most of the time, onlookers are friendly and only have compliments to give :)
What kind of equipment do you use? For most photo sessions, we will be using a Sony A7r3 and 24-70mm f/2.8 lens.
How long will I be waiting for my photos? You will receive the colour-edited photos within 1-2 weeks of the shoot. Fine-art edited photos will take another 2-3 weeks after the desired photos for editing have been selected. How will I receive my photos? You will receive a link to a Dropbox folder containing the high-res images. Please download the images to your own device as the link will expire after 3 months.
Do you provide prints and albums? Yes. To keep our packages as affordable as we can, prints and products are sold as add-ons. We provide album layout designing services as well, please email us if you are keen to find out what products we offer.
What happens if I'm not happy with the images? Please let us know your concerns as soon as possible upon receiving the photos. In some situations, we may re-edit the photos at no extra charge. However, to avoid unhappiness, please have a look at our portfolio prior to booking, and only proceed if you like our editing and photographic style.
What happens if I am unable to make the shoot due to emergencies / unforeseen circumstances / changes in schedule? Please let us know as soon as possible. We can reschedule if notice is given three weeks before the shoot date agreed upon, subject to availability of slots. A charge of $80 may apply if the notice period is shorter than three weeks.
What if there is bad weather on the day of the shoot?
Most of the time, showers and thunderstorms in Singapore pass quite quickly, and even though it may be raining at the start, the weather may be sunny again by the time your hair style and makeup are complete. However, we can agree to reschedule the shoot if bad weather is forecast for the entire day, or if the shoot location is particularly unforgiving with little shelter (e.g. Coney Island). Decisions made will be based on information provided by NEA and other weather forecasting sites.
Can my friends / family come to take photos as well?
Of course! They are welcome to take photos from the side. However, to maximise the quality of the photo package, they should not interfere with the shoot process by talking to you or giving suggestions for poses when the session is taking place.
Do you rent out hanfu or props? Not at the moment.
Can I get a discount?
Prices quoted are non-negotiable - we only charge for the value that we believe our work provides. Our annual promotional period is 11.11, where discounts will be offered to returning customers for selected packages.
Will I be given the RAW files as well? No. The raw photo is merely half of the final product; post-production is equally important as well. We wish to present you with work that fully represents our style and brand. This is especially so for ancient style photography, which aims to evoke a certain kind of mood in each image instead of striving for realism.
